My classroom is designed for collaborative learning through the use and arrangement of the desks in the collaborative area. I also chose a lecture presentation area with a smartboard, computer and desks arranged for such activities. The large oval table and chairs are in my classroom to provide small group instruction or one on one activiities. The "Media Creativity Area," contains areas such as an easel with stools, bean bag chairs, and arm chairs with a fold out table easel; all of which promote creative thinking. I also created a kichenette with a refridgerator, microwave, cabinets and table with two chairs for snacking. As you can see from my choice of furniture style and arrangements, the majority of my ideal classroom is designed to encourage collaborative learning, such as the collaboration area, small group instruction area, and the media creativity area. The lecture/presentation area is for listening to lecture and evaluating presentations. I also feel that with the media creativity area I am providing an area for students to feel comfortable and be able to share knowledge in a "non-traditional" type learning environment, which includes an easel and stools, arm chairs and a table, and an area with bean bag chairs. This room also contains a small kichenette that is equipped with cabinets, refridgerator, microwave and table and chairs, so that students may have snacks and be comfortable. The large cabinets throughout the rest of the classroom are designed to hold class materials, and student's belongings. Every desk has a laptop so that technology can be utilized and integrated into the learning environment. I also believe that this classroom allows for these areas to be used simultaneously. For example; a group could be practicing a presentation, while other students are working together toproblem solve in the collaboration area, and other students are brainstorming ideas in the Media/creativity area.I feel that my classroom is designed to represent Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction , which I have listed in my budget justification spreadsheet.
